The Senate on Wednesday deadlocked a vote, 49-49, on a resolution to reject President Trump’s determination of a national emergency that Trump relied on to impose the “liberation day” tariffs. Three Republicans voted to reject the tariffs—Sens. Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and Rand Paul. The resolution was mostly symbolic, as the “House has approved a rule to block a vote on the resolution and Trump has threatened to veto such a measure if it makes it to his desk.” (Politico.)

The historians said that some of these actions—such as withholding federal funding from universities and unilaterally dismantling federal agencies—have “no clear precedent.” (NYT.)
Philip Bump criticized the House Oversight Committee’s apparent indifference to President Trump’s business ties. (WAPO.)
